Bugs Bunny

Have any of you ever seen the cartoon where Bugs Bunny massages Elmer Fudd's head? Let us refresh your memory...

8 weeks old

Just when I think I have my son figured out, he changes. He's back to getting up twice a night now. I don't know if it is just because he had shots on Friday or our company or what but it feels like we are now going backwards. I am reassured by other mothers that this is normal so I just get through one day and night at a time. I am currently cutting dairy, caffeine, citrus, and spices out of my diet to see if it changes his eating habits and gassy problems at all. After 3 days, I will add one thing back in at a time and see what happens. It is very hard for me to find things to eat! For dinner tonight I am having grilled chicken, french fries, and couscous. Not the pad thai I originally had planned for tonight's dinner.
Other than that, Kale is doing well. He's awake more and smiling every once in awhile. Not consistent enough to get a picture, but we will soon!

Of course, more camo

peter wins

Well, Peter guessed correctly on Kale's weight. On Friday at the doctor, Kale weighed in at 9 pounds and 6 ounces, a little smaller than I expected. He measured 22 1/2 inches. He is in the 25th percentile for height and weight and the 50th percentile for his head circumference. The doctor said he is perfectly porportioned and a healthy little guy. He got three shots and I am glad I wasn't in the room when he got them. Peter took him but I could still hear him screaming down the hall. Such a said little cry. :( He's doing well and only pooped on me twice while I checked his temperature. I guess I know what he thinks about that now!

Baseball and video

Kale was decked out in some baseball attire to celebrate the start of the World Series. We know the Mariners aren't playing but that is Kale's favorite team so he had to represent.

Sometimes when Kale is fussy, it is his way of telling us that he just wants to lay down and kick and squirm. I usually find this out while changing his diaper, which I had just done before this video. That right leg must have been what was always kicking me in my ribs! He has started talking more and I think I caught at least one coo.

busy busy

We have been very busy here in Bozeman. Lots of fun people visiting. My mom, her friend Shanna, and my sister came for a long weekend last weekend and Peter's dad, stepmom and sister are here this week. Kale is getting lots of love! He has started only waking up once in the night to eat and it is great. I think he is having a growth spurt because he is eating about 3 times as much as normal and sleeping lots. We go to the doctor on Friday for his 8 week appointment. Any guesses on how much he weighs? At two weeks he weighed 7 pounds and 8 ounces. Also, I hear he looks a lot bigger in the pictures on the blog than he does in real life. We had a little fun with a pumpkin again. These crazy ladies!

Oops, tipping over.
"Come on guys, I'm helpless here!"
"Fine, I"ll sit still just so you'll stop!"

road trip!

Last fall in Hingham, the boys went hunting and got some pheasant
This fall, a new boy joined the group. He didn't get to go hunting but made the picture much cuter. The boys got 3 birds and had a really great time being boys.
Peter and Kale with a pheasant feather. (I made them disinfect his hand after he held it.)
We traveled the 5 hours up to the hi-line this last weekend to see my family and there was a shower for Kale and me. It was great to see so many people and all the blessings they bestowed upon us. There really is something to say about the wonderful people from the community that I grew up in. Kale did really well traveling and of course charmed the pants off everyone he met. (I think he takes after his dad!)

kale and jack

Daddy Josh and his new son Jack
Jack Charles Oberly was born October 9th at 6:54 pm. He weighed 7 pounds and 3 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches. Kalen Charles was born at 6:53 am and weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches. However, he has gotten quite a bit bigger, as you can see from the pictures!

They are going to be best friends, I can tell already.

chillin with uncle jon

Jonny and Kalen
Kale was out for the count!
Jonny came over to hang out with us and ended up watching Kale for a little bit while we went to the grocery store! Yay, a new baby-sitter!

birthday flowers

These are the flowers that Kale sent me for my birthday on Saturday. I had an excellent day. Peter made me a scrumptious breakfast and I got to go out to dinner with my great friends Becca and Reese that night while Peter watched Kale. I am so blessed by my boys and friends.

Here You Go Addie

Our friend Addie said she couldn't import this picture on her blog. Considering that I'm in tech support myself, I thought 1. Now's your chance of showing off your mad "save as" skills and 2. I've actually said this to a customer...no not really - although it would be quite amusing to do just once. Enjoy. Click on the image to actually read it : D

you think my hands are big!

One month

I am one month old and do I look like my dad or what?

crying

Today marks the beginning of letting Kale cry himself to sleep. I didn't plan on starting today. In fact, I keep making excuses not to start. "I'll start next week" and "What we're doing now works". However, this morning I was tired so I thought I would try. I put him down after his early morning feeding with his pacifier in his mouth but he was awake. Usually I rock him to drowsy or to sleep before I lay him down but he just wanted to look around this morning. So, I laid him down and went back to bed. He of course spit his suckie out and started crying. I decided to put the pillow over my head and see what happened. To my surprise and delight, he fell asleep! I was so proud of him and of myself for not going in to hold him. I was also very thankful for the extra hour of sleep I got!

Just now, I put him down for a nap after he had fallen asleep in my arms. He of course woke up while I was laying him down. Instead of holding him or putting his suckie in, I decided to see if he was up to the challenge of falling asleep on his own again. It worked! He cried for about 15 minutes while I kept myself very busy so I wouldn't go in there. At one point he was extremely mad but now he is asleep! It gets a little easier to let him cry now that I know he won't go on forever! Like I say, every day I learn something new. I really like this mother thing!

Pictures

Daddy giving me a bath. I was hungry, I usually like my bath...
My first bottle. I really liked it. So did Daddy.
I thought I was pretty big to try to hold it myself.
However, I'm pretty little in my big crib.
I like to break out of my bundle when I am trying to sleep. Then I wake myself up with my hands. What a life!!!
