in one end, out the other

this is the avocado going in yesterday. had some pretty good bites, we'll take what we can get

this is the avocado coming out yesterday. this is the bottom of his exersaucer, where he had been stepping in and smearing the poop all around with his feet. not only that, this was the second time that day i had to clean up poop from this area! peter rubbed kale's nose in it though so we shouldn't have any more accidents like this.

weekend fun

the husbands went fishing this saturday so the girls decided to live it up. unfortunately, with 5 kids in tow, our "livin' it up" stopped after lunch at mackenzie river. we did spend the afternoon together at reese's house and becca actually got to leave by herself! in the picture, from left to right, smith, reese, sara, mason, lizabeth, kale, naomi, becca, and jack.
lizaboo entertained us all day. what a precious girl.
jack fell asleep on sara's shoulder that night. i think it made her week. peter and i were jealous, wishing our little guy would do that with us. doesn't ever happen.

bon appetit

kale had his first experience with "solids" this afternoon which gave peter a chance to play with our new video camera. the "actor" played the part perfectly in this film but all the artistic credit goes to the director and editor. i was out for the evening and peter worked so intently on editing this that he forgot he was also grilling his dinner and burned it to a crisp, literally. i think the finished product is worth it though.

hing-ham

we were in hingham this last weekend to spend some time with my family. they hadn't seen kale since christmas and for them, that is a long time. peter took friday and monday off so we had some extra time up there and our trip didn't feel as rushed. we got to go out to dinner on sunday night for a belated valentine's date and left the little guy in the trusting arms of his grammie and aunt, hence the previous pictures. yes, that is vaseline in his hair because grammie was afraid the hair gel would be toxic. yes, i get my worriesome personality from her. no, it still hasn't all come out of kale's hair after 3 baths. no, we don't care. yes oma becky, you now have free reign to now put kale in any type of vegetable or fruit you want because his other grammie did this. having some dinner with grammie
our main reason for visiting was to see vanessa play basketball. she's a tough little guard and gets feisty out there. she even took a swipe at a player who took her out! luckily, the refs didn't see it.
grampa explaining the game to kale bug
just love those little biscuits!
we are going to try some rice cereal tonight and have already hired a film and camera crew so i'm sure there will be some footage later this evening.

Living Life

I've thought that maybe we should have named Kale "Huck" because he always seems to kick everything off his feet (socks, shoes, pajamas - built in feet and no feet) and just go barefoot. After finding Kale in a furious mangled clump of clothes one day in his crib, I was convinced that there was a simple way to keep "foot apparel' from falling off of his feet without alerting "Child Services." Unfortunately not even "bow-ties" around the ankles would do the trick (lasted maybe an hour). Perhaps if they were a different color?

Kale woke up from his nap one Saturday to find his dad tying a few flies. Father and son...sharing a moment.

Full speed ahead skipper. (Kale)
I'll keep pushing you if I can have another cookie!(Lizabeth)
Okay, but be careful, Kale's neck isn't very strong yet. (encourage Becca and Reese while mom laughs hysterically - a bottle of booze in one hand, camera in the other)

last one...maybe

we stayed up way too late last night playing on youtube. we can only hope that if kale is ever afraid of monsters, he is as brave as this girl.

here is a little something for you kale fans...

5 months

kale at 4 months

kale at 5 months.

it may not look like he got much bigger but his clothes are changing how they fit. he is still our happy little guy and he has taken to shrieking and singing. he is constantly kicking and moving. i got him from his nap the other day and he had kicked out of his little jeans! he gets excited when he is hungry and he is about to be picked up. we've heard a few giggles but the situation has to be just right. he grabs at things now and is interested in touching people's faces. he is an excellent sleeper, going down around 7 at night and sleeping until about 7:30ish the next morning. i am always truly amazed when he does it! he takes a long nap in the morning and another in the afternoon and then a short one in the late afternoon. he is still just nursing and we will start some solid foods around 6 months. he strokes my chest when he eats and i love every second of it!

i love watching k-bug sleep. i am just so amazed how great of a sleeper he is!

some wanted to watch the superbowl and some wanted to pick for fleas
i leave these two alone for 2 minutes and look what happens.

b town

reese and i and our boys went to billings for a couple days this week, just to get away from our routine. we stayed with her parents and had a very nice time. it was fun to spend time with reese and discuss our lives and different ideas. i think the boys had a great time and didn't fight at all. except, by the look on kale's face, maybe someone whacked him.

we went swimming one morning and our little buddies were tuckered out!

coming back home to our daddies!

contrary to what it looks like in the pictures, they were allowed out of their carseats for a little bit.
