huffing for stuffing (edited)

edit: please let me know if the video is working now. thanks.
before we stuffed ourselves at sam and sara's on thanksgiving, sara, her mother-in-law kristin, and i participated in the "huffing for stuffing" 5k race. it was a beautiful day and i actually enjoyed it! we walked most of it and by most i mean all but the last 50 yards to cross the finish line. image is everything. the start of the race
after our trek. kristin, sara, me.

let's eat!

randomness from the last few weeks

dad and kale sharing a snack

doing some chores
reading a story to his friends, mason left, smith right

watching some cartoons. it lasted about 1 minute.

unfortunately, they all love this singing bug. i do not.

taking a break from eating the bubbles

one of his current favorite toys. the others include a cardboard box, tupperware, and a cardboard tube.

hunting and gathering

peter, sam, kale, and i trekked up to hingham last wednesday so the boys could hunt in the sweet grass hills and the grandparents could munch on kbug. we decided to go munch some lunch with my mom's kindergarten on friday. and munch we did. i think kale ate more than half the 5 year olds. needless to say, he was a hit. he ate lunch, went down the slide on the playground and had a large poop. he took a great nap when we got home. keepin' up with the boys

grandpa trying to get the bug to walk. he is closer everyday folks! i'm not sure if the thanksgiving voters will get their wish but he's on his way. he's walking around furniture and even tranferring from the couch to the coffee table. my bet is on christmas. yikes, that scares me a bit.

the hunting trip was successful and peter came home with a doe and a buck. in the spirit of the economy, peter cut them both up himself. we'll have someone grind most of it into burger. i helped the first night until 1:30 in the morning. the next night peter's brother john helped and we were in bed by 12:30. we are feeling it today.

the kitchen will smell like bleach for a few days and my hands are very dry but at least i know the kitchen is safe to use again.

loving right now

5 things I am loving right now...(idea stolen from Reese)

1. Pandora Internet Radio. This awesome site lets you listen to "internet radio", for free! I just create a channel based on an artist I like and it plays music by that artist and similar artists. I can also make a "quickmix" of artists and have a shuffle of different music. It is always playing in my house throughout the day.

2. My new jeans. I bought these downtown this weekend with some leftover birthday money. They fit great, aren't too low, and the best part, just the right length.

3. My husband's ingenuity in the kitchen.
On Saturday we went through our finances for the last two months and were shocked into starting a budget. On that note, I won a bet and Peter had to make hors douvers from what we had in the house. Had I been challenged in this sense, I would have gone for cheese and crackers. Not my husband. He used shrimp from the freezer, leftover steak, leftover mashed potatoes, and some frozen pie crust to make the pastries below. He then also paired it with some sort of carrot compote that was delicious and a balsamic vinegar reduction sauce. I was and am still amazed. I think he could have his own tv show

4.
My boys going out Saturday morning to get us cinnamon rolls. (And how funny Kale looks in these clothes)

5.

Finding my bug reading in his favorite little spot. Makes me proud every time.

testing out the camera

we have been having a pretty good time around here but nothing compared to peter, who partied it up with obama in chicago last night. apparently he didn't actually get into grant park but was amidst the mobs of people who were downtown.
i picked last night to stop giving kale a bottle in the night when he wakes up for any reason. the reason last night was that he peed through his diaper and jammies. he was very upset and it took an hour and a half to get him back to sleep but the important thing is, HE DIDN'T GET A BOTTLE. he calmed down after i changed him and sang a little song but then he just wanted to be held or have his head stroked. right when i thought he was asleep, i would lay him down and he would cry and fuss. for some reason, i would go back in after 10 minutes or so of this. i should have just let him work it out, i know. however, at 3 in the morning, reason has a way of escaping one's mind. the important thing though, he did eventually fall asleep and WITHOUT A BOTTLE! obama may have won the country's favor but i think i have the sweetest victory today.

little pig little pig

kale and i are on our own this week as peter is in chicago on business. i feel so cool writing that. "my husband is out of town on business" it makes us sound much more upper class than we are. i am looking forward to getting to do whatever i want for a few days but i am sure by tomorrow i will be complaining that i am bored.

this year i dressed kale up as a pig in a blanket. we went downtown and trick or treated to the local businesses. it actually consisted of walking around downtown with our friends while mom ate the occasionally candy bar. it was a great halloween.
