just a swingin'

the days in bozeman have reached what i like to call "perfect". not too hot but still sunny. we can go outside and be perfectly comfortable. we have taken advantage of these days by having picnics in the park with peter during the week. today we took the camera and had a great time swinging. kale has gone from no interest in swinging to loving it. i, on the other hand, realized how old i am today when i started to get a little sick on the swings. i do turn 26 next week so i guess it was bound to happen eventually. my boys i just love this little buddy!
i don't know how this position didn't make him sick!
i'm not sure, but i don't think he could get any cuter
wait, i was wrong
lovin' it

after we put kale down to bed tonight he started crying. he has been protesting bed lately so we were letting him work it out. after about 25 minutes we decided we had had enough yelling. we walked in and found this...
since he can't get himself down, what we thought was him protesting bed was just him wanting to go to bed.

what kid is not afraid of a running vacuum? (lost his pants on the way to check it out)
lily and noah came over today and kale was very interested in someone smaller than him. so interested, he managed to pull himself up from his belly to his knees, a first! (notice the unsure face)
when kale woke up from his nap, he was so excited to see lily!

another first, going from knees to feet and then actually stepping forward! this was a big day for firsts, he also waved bye-bye to daddy!

little buddy

well, our little bug is a year old. he's actually getting older even though not much bigger! as mentioned earlier, he only gained 2 pounds from 9 months and now tips the scales at 17 pounds 4 ounces. not on the charts for weight yet but making an appearance in the length category at 28 inches. long and skinny our guy. the doctor took his blood and he is slightly anemic and will now start taking iron drops for awhile.

lots has changed in the last month. he has a couple teeth on the bottom and points at everything! no sign language yet but when he wants more of something, he points at it. he is very proud of himself when i stand him up against the couch or coffee table and it is a good way to keep track of him as he can't get himself down yet. he is so much fun, interacting more all the time and always ready for a laugh. somehow we got him to sit still for two seconds before he lunged for the camera.
i caught him halfway out the door to the porch and halfway out of his pants. since then i have decided he will be wearing overalls until he can walk.

peter went hunting this last weekend and kale was trying to smuggle himself in his bag.
john doesn't have a tv in his dorm so his xbox is at our house and we are working on mastering guitar hero.
kale really likes the buttons
notice the overalls :)

all kinds of stuff

we had a birthday party in the park on kale's actual birthday
i made chocolate cupcakes
kale is a very voracious eater
we go outside to say goodbye to dad every morning
kale's new car
peter has a hard time keeping his eyes open for pictures

i will post more about kale turning one and the new things he is doing, but for now, just know that he weighed 17 pounds and 4 ounces at the doctor today and everyone who guessed at the party on saturday was way over.
